Interview tips

These tips are for guidance only and may not cover all interview topics.

Prepare

Update your resume and check it for accuracy. Practice giving a brief but comprehensive overview of your resume. Spend time reflecting on your experiences and their connection to the skills required for the role.

What specific situations, projects, challenges, or relationships have contributed to your ability to be successful in the role?

Explain your thinking

We’re looking for candidates who are more concerned with getting to the right answer rather than being right.

Share what sets you apart

We want to know what sets you apart from other candidates. What unique value will you bring to the table on day one? Why does the team need your unique skill set, experience, and point of view? What gaps might you be able to fill?

Highlight your transferable skills

Think broadly about your experience so you can confidently identify the way that skills you’ve built in different contexts are relevant to the role you’re interviewing for.

This is especially helpful if you’re early in your career, are coming from a different industry, or are making a career transition.

Know your audience

Spend time learning about the firm and the Vikings who will be interviewing you. Consider how you might build rapport and adapt the way you talk about your experiences based on the role and seniority of your interviewers.

Consider the bigger picture

Spend time thinking about how the role you’re applying for fits into the broader team and works with other teams.

What can you bring not just to the role but to the teams you’ll work with? Test your assumptions with your interviewers and get their perspective.

Be specific

We assess candidates based on the competencies required for the role. We will ask you about past situations where you demonstrated a skill or a Viking value.

Provide specific details about the challenge you faced, the action(s) you took, the outcome, and your reflections/lessons learned. Be prepared to share different examples with different interviewers that highlight the full range of your skills and experiences.
